Overview
The federal workforce is composed of an estimated 2.1 million civilian workers. As a new Federal HR specialist, one of your first roles may be to help your agency hire additional employees. Several laws and regulatory guidance serve as the foundation for hiring processes and procedures. This course will provide you with foundational information on the laws and regulations that govern staffing activities.

How You Will Benefit
In this three-hour online course, you’ll learn:

  • What HR professionals can and cannot do when hiring for Federal agency employment.
  • Merit Systems Principles and Prohibited Personnel Practices, including hiring flexibilities and Veterans’ preference.
  • Legal authorities for issues of concern to Federal employees, applicants for Federal jobs, preference eligibles and others.
  • Information about the nine merit system principles that are required of Federal personnel management.
  • Regulatory authorities for addressing issues of concern to Federal employees, labor unions, compliance monitors, applicants for Federal jobs, preference eligibles and others.

  • Early career HR Specialists with 3 years or less of Federal HR experience
