Most, if not all, national priorities today - from responses to natural disasters to matters of food safety - extend beyond the jurisdiction of specialized agency missions. Increasingly, Federal Senior Executives must orchestrate multi-organizational arrangements to address these complex priorities.

Collaboration across boundaries - within and among federal agencies; between the public and government; across levels of government; among the public, private and nonprofit sectors; and across global boundaries - can be a useful strategy to implement policies and achieve results well beyond the purview of any single agency.

What is effective collaboration, who do you engage and how, and when should you leverage it as a senior leadership strategy? What are the costs and the benefits? How do you recognize and prevent collaboration failure? Who is “in charge” when power and responsibility are broadly shared?

Driving Effective Collaboration to Address National Priorities is a forum designed to help new Senior Executives to connect the characteristics of complex public problems with the enterprise leadership mindset suited to taking on the challenges and delivering results.
